DDRM Editing

About me

Thanks for visiting my site. My name is David Menilla. I completed a dissertation at UC Berkeley in 2014 (Virginia Woolf and the Mediated Modern Subject: Class System, SpaceTime and the Aesthetics of Creative Labor) and have been working as an editor in the Netherlands since 2020. I have edited dissertations, peer-reviewed articles, policy reports, web pages, grant proposals, books, and taught English grammar. I offer several types of editing as well as grammar lessons and tutoring.

My Services

Substantive Line Edit

I look very closely at your sentences and edit for clarity and meaning. This is a deep dive into your text that really tries to brings its beauty and coherence to the surface. With a substantive line edit, I look at your sentences as a reader trying to understand your text. I ask myself: Does the content of your sentences make sense and do your sentences follow logically from one to the other? If there are places where your sentences and/or paragraphs could use some shifting around to help the readibility and development of your argument, I will make in-text changes where appropriate and offer suggestions in the comments.

Line edit

A line edit is for a text that has gone through a substantive line edit. It focuses on the more technical aspect of your sentences like punctuation, syntax, and grammar. I will make in-text changes where appropriate and offer suggestions in the comments.

Proofread

A proofread is for a text that has already gone through a substantive line edit, line edit, and copy edit. I will address any lingering punctuation, syntax, and grammar issues. I will make in-text changes where appropriate and offer suggestions in the comments.
